Theoretical Perspectives
Review Chapter 4 in the Burger textbook and contemplate the major theoretical schools of therapy: behaviorism, psychoanalysis, and humanistic psychology. Based on the textbook readings, the required videos, and any additional sources that you find, address the following items in your initial post to this forum:
- Identify the theoretical approach that appeals to you the most and the one that appeals to you the least; for both selections, explain and justify your choice.
- Identify at least one position or practice relating to the social sciences or human services specifically that is supported or informed compellingly by the theory you identified.
- Argue why the one approach has greater explanatory power than the other, evaluating the strengths, limits, and shortcomings of both approaches.
Read Section 3.2: Using Existing Theories to Generate Research Ideas, Section 4.2: Broad Versus Narrow Approach, and Section 4.3: Evaluating Sources from Sole’s and Landrum’s (2015) Academic Research and Writing: A Guide for the Social Sciences.
Your initial post should contain between 300 and 350 words, and any specific references to sources must be cited in APA Style (6th ed.). Respond substantively to a minimum of two peers by Day 7 of this week.
