Your essay should outline how this issue came to be important to the industry, what the AH&LA recommends as far as this legislative issue and why, and how this issue has impacted the industry
The American Hotel and Hotel Association (AH&LA), has been serving the hospitality industry for more than a century. It’s the sole national association representing all segments of the 1.8 million employee U.S Lodging industry, including hotel owners, REITS, chains, franchisees, management companies, independent properties, state hotel associations, and industry suppliers.
AH&LA membership , you get engagements on important policy discussions to communicate the industry’s value and importance to decision makers representations on a wide variety of profile issues, an opportunity to serve on the AH&LA Independent Council, which identifies emerging trends and nominates members for the AH&LA board of directors, membership on a larger team of thousands of colleagues, industry experts, and leading hoteliers, a world- class team of experts, and crisis management, so that you can focus on what you do best- running your business and discount on Educational Institute products, industry conferences and more. AH&LA deals with a lot of issues, whether it’s legislative issues, which refers to new bills or changes to existing laws, and regulatory issues that refer to policies and procedures that affect your day to day operations.
AH&LA, is currently working on the Healthcare Implementation issue. This issue came about in 2010, passed by the party-line vote in Congress. It was signed by President Obama. It was the most significant change since the creation of Medicaid in1965. This new law will require most people to carry health insurance and employers with more than 50 employers must offer healthcare insurance coverage or pay a fine for every uninsured employee. AH&LA, opposed this bill because of the great number of new one-size-fits-all mandates that further drive up the cost containment measures and the lack of meaningful provisions to assist businesses in accessing affordable coverage.
AH&LA is committed to working with the Congress to make necessarily changes to the Affordable Care Act (ACT) to ensure our industry can continue to provide quality and affordable health insurance to its employees and their families. They are also seeking greater flexibility in implementation of the ACA, a repeal of certain tax provisions, expanded use of HSAs and flexible spending plans and a repeal of the auto-enrollment mandate that would significantly drive up cost and confusion for hotel and lodging employees. AH&LA is also continuing to host Webinars and briefing to educate hoteliers on the provisions of the ACA and developing tools to assist members in meeting their obligations under the healthcare law.
Increasing the healthcare law’s status would be a win-win for hard-working Americans and their employers and would benefit an entire economy. Employees would have the ability to work more hours and increase their take-home pay, employers would be able to provide more generous healthcare coverage without prohibitive premium cost to full time employees and lower income employees would have greater access to affordable coverage options.
